ROPA - The project focuses on the syntheses of novel redox-active dendrimeric calix [4] arenes containing various transition metal bipyridyl cores that have the additional capability of encapsulating charged/neutral guests inside the dendrimer-calix cavities. Various calix[4]arene dendrons containing upper rim redox-active organometallic functional components and lower rim bipyridyl moieties will be prepared. These dendritic wedge sub units on subsequent co-ordination to kinetically inert redox-photo-active transition metals will produce novel redox-active dendrimer calixarenes whose intriguing physical and chemical properties will be dependent upon the nature of the transition metal bipyridyl core; the surface redox-active components; calix[4]arene branch and complexed guests.
