Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research involves the development of fast decoding schemes and their implementation for soft-decision decoders. The key technique used here is the efficient trellis decoding algorithm which is idea for tackling many practical problems such as implementation complexity, trade-offs between system efficiency and reliability, signal receiving quality with different types of channels involved, and so on. It will also lead to a range of codes suitable for mobile data networks, in terms of good error performance and high system throughput. The analytical tools developed in the course of the programme will advance the state of theoretical understanding of soft-decision trellis decoding for block codes in general. The methodology presented is novel, and the research aims to direct its contribution to both soft-decision decoding and applications to third generation mobile communications.
