Summary on Grant Application Form |
Current finite element based unstructured grid solution algorithms in computational electromagnetics generally employ linear elements for the spatial discretisation and have no associated a posteriori error control estimators. As the wave number increases, dispersion and phase error quickly becomes a major problem with these algorithms and the mesh requirements can become excessive. In addition, spurious solutions are often present and can pollute the computed results. With these issues in mind, this projects aims to investigate the applicability, stability, efficiency and usefulness of a solution approach in which the spatial discretisation is accomplished via hp-edge elements. A posteriori error estimators will be developed and will be employed to guild an adaptive solution proceedure to encompass this technology will be compared, in terms of both accuracy attained and computational efficiency, with other codes which are currently employed in the academic and the industrial environment.
