Summary on Grant Application Form |
There is a great deal of interesting work and novel findings in biological and cognitive neuroscience that the UK computational neural network community is unaware of. Although the UK computational neural network community is very active, continued input from neuroscientists can only help motivate to create new and potentially significant research avenues. Findings in these and other areas within neuroscience may have an impact on the design of novel computer systems. The focus of the network is toward understanding the architecture of biological systems and the use of this knowledge in computing, in particular for building computational neural architectures. The network is a multidisciplinary community based on computer science, neurobiology and cognitive neuroscience. Therefore a whole range of expertise is provided primarily from academe based on the novelty of the research. The network will provide a new outlook in artificial neural systems, to complement the current focus in the UK on the statistical analysis and understanding of small neural systems. The network will aim to provide a computational view of artificial neural systems, to broadly focus on how natural systems compute.
