Summary on Grant Application Form |
Preliminary work in our laboratory has shown that quinuclidine N-Oxides (QNO) can replace the carcinogenic HMPA in several key reactions. Ames tests have shown that QNA is non mutagenic. This proposal outlines how we wish to develop our initial findings by studying the use of QNO as an HMPA replacement in further key transformations. We will also undertake the synthesis of novel QNO's which bear additional metal binding sites and study their ability to replace HMPA. Finally we wish to prepare chiral QNOs and examine their use as catalysts in the preparation of chiral B-chlorlo alcohols.
