Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal seeks to demonstrate the accuracy of a unique ultra-high speed (25 ms scan time) X-ray tomographic imaging system for quantitative analysis of multi-phase flow in pipes. By combining our highly innovative imaging techniques with our expertise in multi-phase flow, we aim to develop and calibrate a novel instrument for analysis of individual phase velovities in complex flows. These measurements have hitherto proved impossible to achieve with the accuracy required in most situations. We shall apply this instrument to measuring flows using a test facility in the University with the aim of demonstrating the ultimate sensitivity of the instrument under a range of flow types. The cutting edge technological solution proposed in this application will enforce the UK's lead in this industrially important area.
