Summary on Grant Application Form |
1. The developments in (a) will be achieved by the incorporation of a high repetition rate (up to 250 kHz) amplified femtosecond Ti: Sapphire laser system and optical parametric amplifier (Opa) into our existing time correlated photon counting (TCSPC) system. This will be paralleled by the development of polarisation resolution in a multiplexed streak camera system using our present single photon excitation source (cavity dumped dye laser). 2. New methods of two photon photoselection will be developed for the orientational control of excited state populations involving single and multiple laser pulse sequences (in an analogous manner to our established single photon techniques). We will also pursue studies of orientational control in two colour two photon SEP using the regeneratively amplified Ti: Sapphire laser and Opa.3. The techniques developed in (2) will be applied to the study of probe molecule order and motion in liquid crystal mesophases (in collaboration with Cambridge), the study of aligned biomolecules (in collaboration with Cardiff) and molecular complex formation in cell signal transfer (in collaboration with Imperial Cancer Research Fund).
