Summary on Grant Application Form |
The potential use of nano composite thin films as efficient barrier coatings for polymeric substrates is to be explored at a fundamental level. The design of systems capable of being processed into smooth thin films using low temperatures coating techniques is addressed with specific reference to polymer systems which might be used in packaging applications. The project splits into four sections:- Generation of nano composite structures with specific organic treatment.- Study of the rheological problems associated with thin film formation and coating- Study of the mechanical and structure properties of the composites produced- Assessment of the gas and water vapour permeation properties of the film
