Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal seeks to support, under the joint research grant scheme, for a three-year study to develop, evaluate and demonstrate processing and motion compensation algorithms for spotlight mode, squint mode and interferometric synthetic aperture sonar. For high-resolution minehunting sonar to be carried by a tow fish or autonomous under water vehicle. The study follows on from a previous grant, which demonstrated synthetic aperture sonar under controlled conditions in a test tank. It is to be carried out collaboratively with DERA Bincleaves (who will provide data and access to trials facilities) and with Thomas Marconi Sonar, who will provide financial support of 90,000. The work will be undertaken by a postdoctoral research assistant and a PhD student at UCL, by a member of staff at DERA Bincleaves who will register as a part-time external PhD student at University College London
