Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is the first stage of a two stage programme aimed at enabling the quantitative design and subsequent production of antennas printed or otherwise applied to packages containing products. To date this process has been achieved on an ad hoc basis generally at radio frequencies or below. We intend to enable the design of small efficient microwave antennas capable of transmitting data and capable of transmitting both data and power. The key to the first stage of the design process is an understanding of the operation of the antennas in the presence of the package and its contents. It is proposed to enable the design by investigating the parameter space by using numerical electromagnetic modelling, material parameter measurement and antenna measurements for model calibration. Work to be carried out at Leeds will subsequently concentrate on the development of printable formulations and consideration of high speed manufacturing viability. Our proposal is the key to enhanced 'on label' processing for product storage and delivery management.
