Summary on Grant Application Form |
There is currently increasing pressure in the Chemical Industry to use replenishable feedstocks, eg lactic acid, which may be produced by fermentation processes. Useful monomers and solvents could be obtained from these feedstocks by esterification or dehydration reactions, in which water is produced. It is proposed to investigate the use of hydrophilic zeolite membranes to remove water in a membrane reactor, in order to achieve the twin objectives of improved product yield and process intensification.
