Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to use master equation and Monte Carlo methods to study a coherently driven two-level atom coupled to a single mode cavity. First, we intend to analyse the population distribution between the dressed states induced by the coherent field, and the spectral properties of the fluorescence field, and then to identify the quantum effects arising from the oscillations in the quantum probability distribution function. The principle object is to devise the practical experiment which would permit the observation of the quantum oscillations for the first time. A second objective is to identify the mechanism for line narrowing in the fluorescence and absorption spectra in CQED. In both cases we wish to determine the optimum conditions for the experimental detection of the effects, taking into account that such complications as there being more than one atom in a cavity at a time, and that the effective coupling constant is time dependent, based on the dressed-atom model, of the strongly driven two-level atom in a optical cavity, and to develop a quantum engineering approach to the coupling of atoms with a cavity mode.
