Summary on Grant Application Form |
Professor G M Homsy will work in close conjunction with the applicants in establishing a mathematical and experimental framework for investigating wetting apropos the coating of imperfect surfaces. This framework will define a collaborative programme which we intend to continue into the future. His particular objective during the period of his stay will be to investigate, via theoretical analysis, various contact line problems (spreading of liquids over topography and chemically heterogeneous surfaces) using appropriate mathematical (matched asymptotics and hydrodynamic stability analysis) and numerical analysis validated experimentally. This will enable us to identify key parameters and physical processes prior to exploring a number of equally challenging problems in our future collaboration.During his stay, Professor G M Homsy will interact with various research students and fellows at the host institution, and also with the wider fluid mechanics community in Leeds and across the UK, and will employ his particular mix of mathematical abilities, physical insight and expertise to the benefit of that community.
