Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal concerns the investigation and development of an efficient multi-user communication system based on the multiple access adder channel scheme. The study is based on improving the performance of such a system using novel decoding techniques based on trellis design applicable to component and composite codes. A practical system is to be developed in order to be applied to the local area network environment (LAN). Theoretical investigations have shown that it is possible to use the adder channel as a way of increasing the number of users in the network without bandwidth expansion. The research will focus on finding the optimum hardware set-up for such a scheme to be realised.Further investigation into improved decoding for the multiple access adder channel for idle users without block synchronisation is to be carried out. The proposed programme will build on results achieved to produce a flexible and practical multi-user communication system that would cater for a variable sub-set of a number of users
