Summary on Grant Application Form |
First techniques will be developed to eliminate spatial cross-talk in the MQW holographic imaging system by exploiting spatial incoherence. This will permit much higher quality images to be obtained than is possible at present, including through turbid media. The two main approaches will be (a) to use diffusers and spatial light modulators to spatially decorrelate a high power laser beam and (b) to investigate the use of LEDs as incoherent sources. The next step will be to make the MQW holographic imaging-system as robust and user-friendly as possible - using diode pumped laser where applicable. It will then be coupled to a microscope in order to investigate its potential for rapid 3-D imaging, particularly for in situ monitoring of laser therapy and micromachining and assessing microstructures. It will also be investigated as a means to provide faster-than-video rate images of larger objects including those in motion. Finally its performance imaging through turbid media will be evaluated and optimised. It will then be applied to samples of biological tissue as well as static and dynamic scattering phantoms.
