Numerical analysis thrives on the tension between mathematics, computer sciences and application areas. Historically, numerical algorithms have originated in a mixture of algorithmic dexterity, mathematical understanding and intuition inherited from applications in science and engineering. This has led to an outstanding body of computational techniques. Yet, in the last few years there is a growing recognition in the value of rendering numerical analysis in more axiomatic, systematic and structured terms.The aim of the conference is to bring together leading experts from the fields of numerical analysis, computer science and pure and applied mathematics to crystallise the mathematical foundation s of computational mathematics. The areas covered include: analysis and approximation of infinite dimensional problems, approximation theory, complexity theory, real machines and homotopy, computational dynamics, computational geometry and topology, computational number theory, geometric integration and complex manifolds, information-based complexity, multiresolution, computer vision and PDEs, numerical linear algebra, optimisation, relations to computer science, stochastic computations, symbolic algebra and computational algebraic geometry. The interaction between leading scientist in these areas is of fundamental importance from the point of advancement of the mathematical theory and is of direct relevance to engineering applications.
