Summary on Grant Application Form
Although stereoselective protonation of enolates has been widely examined, the corresponding area of chemistry involving protonation of organometallics remains unexplored. The proposed research aims to establish the viability of this novel type of asymmetric synthesis, which could provide useful access to enantiomerically enriched chiral products. Racemic organometallics, especially configurationally unstable benzylic types, will be screened with a range of appropriate chiral protonating agents in order to establish conditions for highly enantioselective protonation. The scope for efficient generation of chiral materials of various types will be explored, as well as possibilities for catalytic variants.
