Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project seeks to develop solutions to large scale optimisation problems that can be tailored to complex industrial applications; and to develop the ECLiPSe platform which supports the design and implementation of such solutions. The solutions require hybrid algorithms, involving linear constraint solving, constraint propagation and various forms of search, including heuristic and stochastic methods. The ECLiPSe platform must support a tight, and efficient, integration of these different kinds of algorithm. The solution algorithms must be robust: the ECLiPSe runtime execution time and space requirements must remain realistic under variations in the problem data. Accordingly, solution development requires experimentation with industrial-scale data sets, typically randomised using parameters which reflect foreseeable variations in the data.
