This application requests assistance towards the purchase of a combined FT-IR/FT-Raman spectrometer to underpin the research activities of members of the Chemistry Department at UMIST. The case is made on three counts:(i) the current lack of Raman facilities of any type (and the lack of EPSRC service of this type)(ii) the age (15 years) and poor reliability of existing Departmental IR facilities;(iii) the large demand being placed on our current facilities by existing projects and new projects from recently appointed members of staffDetails of 12 research projects from 10 members of staff from all sections of the Chemistry Department are given which require new or enhanced vibrational spectroscopy facilities.
