Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research project will be concerned with the design of a model for the prediction of residual stress and distortion in welded structures, particularly those of relevance to the aerospace industry. A set of processing trials will be carried out at Rolls-Royce, British Aerospace and TWI. Data collected during these trials will be used to build a description of the thermal-mechanical response of the materials to the heat source. Ancillary materials data will be collected via Gleeble simulation. A range of methods will be used to characterise the welds. The model and the associated databases will be disseminated to the industrial partners. Keywords describing areas of proposal. aerospace, material, suppliers, automotive, energy,
