|
The overall of the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre (EDC) is to develop, validate and disseminate advanced design methods for technical systems. The research programme is divided into four generic themes: (1) Function Modelling; (2) Configuration and Manufacturing Optimisation; (3) Materials and Processing Selection; and (4) Process Integration and Management. The EDC will maintain and expand on the embodiment of methods resulting from the research into an integrated and flexible set of software design support tools. To ensure industrial relevance of the research, design applications in collaboration with industrial partners form an important part of the EDC's activities. The applications are concentrated in four main groups: Aerospace Systems, Heavy Duty Vehicles, Biomedical equipment and special projects. The EDC will continue to cooperate a policy of flexibility, pursuing new opportunities in accordance with a strategic plan, this includes collaboration with other EDC's and research establishments.
