Summary on Grant Application Form |
The programme involves the construction of an oscillatory flow reactor incorporating a uv source. The TiO2 ( in a particulate form still to be determined) will be suspended by the oscillatory flow mechanism in such a manner that it remains in the reator whilst the organic containing stream to be treated is passed continuously through the reactor leaving a clear effluent. The oscillatory flow will give intimate mixing in each 'cell' in the reactor thus exposing the material to be oxidised to both the suspended TiO2 particles and to the uv radiation, The intense agitation in each cell should also solve the problems of filming of the uv source. It will be possible to vary the frequency and amplitude of the oscillations and to vary the intensity of the uv radiations. Several geometrics of baffles will be investigated and the owrk will be carried out at more than one scal. The form of TiO2 is currently being investigated, the particles must be such that they can be suspecded by the oscillatory flow without being entrained by the effluent stream from the rig. The energy required to keeo them in suspension must not be excessive.
