Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research uses sophisticated algebras methods to study noncritical strings, in particular those with two supersymmetries, and is therefore relevant to the understanding of nonperburbative phenomena in physics. A comparative analysis of the representation theories of the affine superalgebra s^1(2/1) and the superconformal algebra N=2 will allow to relate the spectrum of N=2 strings to that of the guaged SL(2/1)/SL(2/1) Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model.A systematic analysis of the algebraic structures involved will result in considerable progress in the study of s^1(2/1) representations and conformal field-theoretic models. It should be viewed as high quality fundamental research with the aim to advance knowledge, both in string physics and mathematics.
