Summary on Grant Application Form
This pilot research study aims to assess the practicability of modelling human resources and their organisation in manufacturing systems, in order to improve the capability of current approaches to enterprise modelling. It will adopt an interative approach to specifying, developing and refining the human resource constructs. Initially, the study will analyse and classify findings in the established literature about enterprise modelling in general and more specifically with regard to human roles in manufacturing organisations, the way in which human roles are organised and the capabilities and qualities of humans as resource elements. The classification will form the building blocks for the human resources constructs which will in turn define more generally applicable modelling constructs and rules about the links between human resources and manufacturing activities. Initial evaluation of the utility and applicability of the human resource constructs will be carried out as an integral part o the pilot study by developing case study scenarios in conjunction with user partners, namely Rover and Holland Tabletting.
