Summary on Grant Application Form |
In this programme the skills and knowledge of Professor Bill McConkey will be used to undertake investigations where there is immediate relevance to the users. Electron impact excitation experiments that rely on observation of radiation from the target are extremely difficult to undertake due to the presence of radiation from the atom source. A feasibility study of methods to avoid this problem is proposed. In a separate investigation cross sections for various channels that result in the ionisation of atomic H by H2+ ions will be measured using time of flight and coincidence techniques. Finally the current design of the species specific O(1S) detector as used by Bill McConkey will be modified to suit the needs of experimenters at Belfast.
