Summary on Grant Application Form |
This programme, forming part of the UK Lean Aerospace Initiative, represent an opportunity for the UK aerospace industry to benefit from the efficiency gains achieved elsewhere using a lean approach to product design and manufacture. The initial programme is envisaged as the first year in a larger programme of research supporting the introduction of systematic performance improvement throughout the aerospace industry value chain. The overall intention of the proposed programme is to bring together and disseminate to the UK aerospace industry data that can support them in introducing and evaluating appropriate lean practices. The programme is strongly oriented towards effective communication of complex ideas to a broad cross-section of the industry. It is designed to be a compatible with a similar initiative under way in the US in order that findings may be shared to mutual benefit. The programme represents a significant research challenge because the distinctive characteristics of he aerospace industry present difficulties in transferring ideas and practices that have evolved in other industrial sectors.
