Summary on Grant Application Form
This results in the need in many cases to own a car even when the household resources are not really sufficient for this. This has a particularly strong impact on older people, people with disabilities and other mobility problems (for example, women with young children). This project investigates the feasibility of fully accessible public transport services in rural areas as a possible approach to these problems. This will be done by implementing a service, designed on the basis of users' needs and based on the pattern of operation developed by the applicant and implemented successfully in London (i.e. a fixed-route, scheduled, relatively high frequency, fully-accessible minibus service), adapted to rural areas. The service will also serve as a mobile factory in which four experiments will be run: on route design, operating strategy, stopping regimes and information provision. The project will also determine the user impacts and the feasibility of incorporating this service with others - e.g. home delivery, other services etc. The service will be monitored throughout the project, and will be evaluated in term of the costs, benefits, advantages and disadvantages.
