Summary on Grant Application Form
The project forms a batched proposal in collaboration with Professor M.D. Ingram, Department of Chemistry, University of Aberdeen.. the project addresses the basic science of the electrochemistry associated with electrochemical double layer and redox supercapacitors. The characterisation of polymer electrolyte based supercapacitors with a range of carbon materials for electrode use will be established and the use of porous silicon as an alternative electrode material in electrical double layer devices will be evaluated. All solid state redox capacitors using new conducting polymer electrodes and polymer electrolytes will be characterised. Both electrical double layers and redox types of devices will be studied using a range of electrochemical techniques including cyclic voltammetry, ac impedance and charge/discharge experiments for large numbers of cycles.
