Summary on Grant Application Form |
This syudy aims at developing a rapid and accurate method for the identification iof panel dampinf on single and multi-bay panels, in order to permit more accurate fatigue predictions for aircraft structures. Firstly, a non-contact excitation array will be developed so as to provide luti-point excitation without added mass or damping effects. A number of different identification approached will be compared for the estimation of modal dampings (proportional damping), including curve fitting and normal node tuning based methods. The estimation will be extended to the identification of modal cross dampings (non-proportional damping). The approached developed will be compared to those involving analysis of responses from a noise duct or in-flight excitation. Methods for identifying the non-linear behaviour of a panel at high response levels will be evaluated. The importance of cross dampings, and the choice of Rayleigh damping coefficients, will be considered with respect to response prediction. Finally, the technology developed including any software) will be transferred to the aerospace industry.
