Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this project is to develop a new form of spectroscopy that offers non-destructive spectral depth-profiling of arbitrary surfaces near ambient temperature. The promary use for the instruments developed would be for our own research into the properties of live bio-tissue, including the study of transdermal drug diffusion, skin surface lipid composition, metabolites associated with externally applied chemical, wound healing and skin disease diagnosis (academic advances). The instruments would also serve as test beds for wider application research and as demonstrators for prospective instrument manufacturers. The proposed research has strategic significance for wealth creation in bio-medical industries (cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical diagnosis) as well as in instrumentation and other areas of non-destructive testing (industrial advances)
