Summary on Grant Application Form |
We aim to study and understand the structure and formation of polymerised forms of carbon formed from high pressure temperature treatment of C60 fullerene. We wish to build on the successful pilot measurements we have already done, and combine the microscopic information from neutron diffraction and inelastic neutron with transmission electron microscopy in an attempt to understand the bulk properties of these new phases. We hope that we will be able to understand the polymerisation process and identify likely routes to new materials/phases with potential commercial application.
