Summary on Grant Application Form |
To be read in conjunction with proposal for visiting fellowship. Collaboration work between propose and Prof. Cottrell of Wake Forest University NC on the possibilities of applying techniques derived from video compression of databases of economic statistics. We intend to evaluate the mathematical soundness of Hierarchical Vector Quantization (HVQ) for this purpose and to carry out initial tests of the techniques on time-series of financial statistics. Prof. Cottrell will make one visit to the UK, other collaboration will be via the internet. We intend to test out a video-phone based on (HVQ) developed by the proposer and co-workers as the basis for this collaborative working. During this visit Prof. Cottrel will aim to give seminars on the application of information-theoretical concepts in economic analysis.
