Summary on Grant Application Form |
The instrumented Cirt Facility simultaneously cptures on-line traffic, air pollution and weather data from monitoring systems across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. This facility was initiated and developed at the University of Nottingham by Dr Margaret C Bell and her research team. In Jan 97, Dr Bell was appointed Deputy Director (research) of the Institute of Transport Studies and the Instrumented City Facility was relocated in the Lifton Building in the University of Leeds. The move to Leeds has coincided with a complete on-street upgrade of traffic monitoring and control in Leicester along with the large investment in roadside monitoring across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. As a result, the Instrumented City computer hardware, now installed at Leeds, has inadequate storage capacity and the communications links with the traffic management computers can no longer cope with the demands of the research. Therefore, this proposal requests funding to upgrade the communications link and computer to enable the Instrumented City Facility to benefit from the significant investment made by Leicester City and Noothingham County Councils and to purchase one noise and two traffic speed, flow and carbon monoxide monitoring systems.
