Summary on Grant Application Form |
The purpose of this proposal is to request funds to purchase a number of small items of equipment. These items will greatly help in current and future research programmes. All the items have been offered to us at a discount of 50% or more on their current list price. In exchange the group have agreed to carry out development work on the items, software development and demonstration work for prospective customers of the equipment. The proposers are currently studying the properties relevant to microwave dielectric resonators (DRs) and so far the project has met with some considerable success viz. The discovery of exceptionally high Q dielectrics, 4 patent filings and industrial interest which has already resulted in the transfer of technology to industry. Dr Stuart Penn is supported under the current EPSRC grant. The items requested are all in support of the major research theme, which is dielectrics, but can also be used on four other research projects within the department.Related Projects: a) Thin film silicon for photovoltaics (Dr HS Reehal)b) Thin film silicon carbide (Dr HS Reehal)c) Thin film diamond coatings for wear resistance (Dr HS Reehal)d) Superconductors (Prof. NMcN Alford).
