Summary on Grant Application Form |
The energy and Environmental Prediction (EEP) model is being developed on EPSRC Grant No. GR/K19181 and is due for completion by December 1997. The model is able to predict energy and resource usage and flows and associated pollutant emissions associated with the built environment, traffic systems and industry, for a Whole City, or city sector. It uses a GIS and associated data-bases for storing data from predictions and survey data. The EEP development received funded support from Cardiff County Council, Newport Borough Council, Welsh Development Agency and South Glamorgan. This new proposal will extend the capabilities of the EEP model, by including new 'sub-models' on pollution and health, and will investigate its uses in four local authorities. The project will be based on the collaboration of four Universities/LA teams, in Cardiff, Leicester, London and Belfast. The project will also involve close collaboration with Leeds University (Prof David Kay) to exchange information between EEP and QCII (quantifiable Cities model) so that the two models complement each other in sharing software 'sub-models'and development strategies.
