Summary on Grant Application Form |
The stability of flow in a channel anf pipe with compliant walls will be investigated using a combination of analytical/nemerical methods. A detailed study will be carried out to investigate and classify the expected new modes of instability for a general compliant wall model.Secondly, the role of instability theory in fully developed turbulent flows will be investigated. SOme preliminary work suggests that organised distrubances in a turbulent boundary layer can become unstable. This finding needs to be more fullt substantiated, and the analysis extended to other flow situations.
