Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal seeks funding over two years for a research programme that responds to EPSRC's call for proposals in Design for a Whole Life Cycle . The central vision of the project is to create holistic models of the product life cycle that embrace the two key business drivers of economics and environmental impact. Within these models will be assessed product design concepts generated with the aim of achieving non-incremental step changes in the design of telecommunications products. The concept of utilizing packaging as an integral part of the product will be explored and used as a vehicle both for the generation and validation of the model, as will design choices driven by reuse and upgrade in support of product life extension. Functional and non-functional prototypes will be realized to demonstrate the most promising concepts.
