Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal aims to build on preliminary research undertaken in a recent AIKMS project which looked at the feasibility of using neural networks for high speed knowledge manipulation. The work are is the implementation of a parallel pattern matching machine for use on very large datasets. The machine incorporated the AURA neural networks methods which are based on binary correlation matrix methods (CCMs). The project will investigate the feasibility of scaling up the hardware implementation of the AURA methods developed in the AIKMS project. The work will include an exploration of the problems involved in distribution of work over a number of CMM processors as well as the problems of implementing a high speed communications within multi-processor system. The research will demonstrate the utility of Aura for two commercially relevant pattern matching problems in address matching and aircraft sensor management systems as well as providing a machine as a tool in our groups research.
