Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed research is to study the methods and to produce associated devices for life cycle data acquisition. Such devices can be devised and built either in a generic form or as integral functions of consumer maintenance, remanufacturing or recycling. The results will be of interest to manufacturers for such identified needs. This research is novel, especially in the design and construction of a low cost, generic device (for which a patent application is pending) and in the integration of these functions into control and sensor units in products and machines. The implementation of life cycle data acquisition will in line with the trend for more intelligent components and open system initiatives. The result in an advance in life-cycle design thinking which pays for itself (the desirable characteristic of environmental progress).
