Summary on Grant Application Form |
The programme aims to develop a computer based model, capable of simulating erosion and foreign object damage to thermal barrier coatings. The modelling approach uses Monte Carlo simulation techniques to model the impact damage that accumulates in the surface. Ceramic thermal barrier failure mechanisms will be identified using high velocity single impact studies. Model predictions will be validated using a high temperature/high velocity gas gun erosion test facility.
