Summary on Grant Application Form
Highly electrophilic Group 4 Cp complexes of relevance to polymerisation catalysis have been found to undergo very facile and unusual C-H activation reactions. The products of these reactions will form the starting point of this investigation. The chemistry of electrophilic mono- and binuclear complexes of diene, dienyl and diazadiene ligands will be explored, with emphasis on insertion reactions and reactions with electrophiles, to give new highly unsaturated systems, and nucleophiles. The aim is to establish guiding principles of the reactions that might be involved in catalyst deactivation, and possibly regeneration, processes. Parallel work on Cp-free complexes will extend this work to new electronically unsaturated systems that, depending on their own reaction patterns, may constitute interesting catalytically actives species in their own right.
