Summary on Grant Application Form |
The feasibility of using amphilic polymers that exhibit critical solution behaviour as smart phase transfer catalysts in aqueous/organic two phase reactions will be assessed using photophysical techniques. Three different copolymer architectures will be synthesised incorporating trace amounts of luminescent labels at various sites within the macromolecules: Time-resolved anisotropy and other luminescence measurements on the various labelled samples will be used to examine their thermal responsive behaviour in an aqueous medium and thence to identify the optimum copolymer composition to effect catalysis.
