Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is concerned with the rapid modification of structural characteristics of offshore members in an explosion using electrorheological fluid based devices. The plan is to assess the application of this technology to offshore members and their work attachments in order to control structural deformations and load transfer between the member and the supporting framework. The aim in this is to address the problem of conflicting safety and structural engineering requirements with regard to offshore members and hence to improve overall structural efficiency on offshore platforms.
