Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this project is to investigate the impact properties of a novel stampable glass fibre reinforced polypropylene/aluminium laminate. Initially, attention will focus on optimising the processing cycle in order to achieve good adhesion between the composite and aluminium layers. Once this has been achieved, a series of low and high velocity impact tests will be undertaken in order to investigate the dynamic response of these lightweight laminates. Finally, a theoretical model will be developed to predict the energy-absorbing response of the thermoplastic/aluminium laminates.
