Summary on Grant Application Form |
Compounds circulating in bloodstream are known to exude through skin. Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) are an established means of preparing sorbents of very high specificity. We propose to investigate the feasibility of entrapping skin exudates using MIPs in dermal devices, for use in saturation assays. The potential of such systems is very large and diverse, eg: 'domestic' therapeutic drug monitoring, detection of drug abuse and workplace exposure (eg absorption of organophosphates by military personnel). MIPs will be preapred for a series of compounds and Franz diffusion cells containing human skin will be used in the reverse mode to determine efflux.
