The physics of quantum dots has been at the focus of extensive research over the past decade. Several major effects have been discovered in the ballistic regime including the Coulomb Blockade, level statistics of chaotic cavities, spectral statistics of quantum dots with diffusive obstacles, and anomalous orbital magnetic susceptibility to name just a few. In the present project we propose to develop a comprehensive analytical approach to physics of diffusive dots with allowing for interaction. We hope this approach will be a foundation for further research contacts involving both investigators and the visiting fellow. During the proposed visit, our main effort will be aimed at characterising the single particle tunnelling density of states through the dot which allow to study two- and four- probe transport as well as spectral statistics. While previous studies emphasised the role of the Coulomb Blockade in strictly zero dimensional dots, we examine the interplay between Kondo-like behaviour near a resonance and diffusive propagation through the dot. We expect to find possible experimental signatures of a crossover from diffusive-dominated behaviour to zero-dimensional physics.
