The non-Gaussian fluctuations of dynamically scattered coherent light are known to contain information concerning the physical character of the scattering centres, provided their number is not too large. If the incident/scattered light is polarised, information concerning the particle shape is contained in the Gaussian fluctuations in addition to the non-Gaussian enhancements through a generalisation of the well known Seigert relationship.This project aims to measure these fluctuations and use them with theoretical models for the light scattering to characterise the particle shape. The models will be developed using random walk theory, combined with progressively more sophisticated representations of the scattering cross-sections of the particles. An ultimate aim is to assess the feasibility of discerning between ensembles of differently shaped particles.
