Summary on Grant Application Form
At Sheffield, EPSRC grant GR/K18962 is concerned with the missing data problem in speech recognition; if recognition takes place in the presence of noise it will not be possible to separate out all the evidence for the speech source. We are developing extensions to statistical speech recognition techniques for the incomplete data case. This approach contrasts with conventional approaches to robust recognition, is related to psycho-acoustic findings and links with developing paradigms such as multiband recognition. In this study visit I intend to explore the relationships between these new ideas, visiting CIAP Rutgers, Carnegie Mellon University, Oregon Graduate Institute and ICS Berkley.
