Summary on Grant Application Form |
Feedfoward control can be used in a number of practical applications where some prior knowledge of the disturbance is available. By making the feedfoward controller adaptive, good performance can be maintained in the face of disturbance and plant changes and the feedfoward controller is no longer open loop . The main aim of this project is to investigate algorithms for multichannel feedfoward controllers which can track on-stationary disturbances and compensate for time variability and weak nonlinearity of the plant. Two specific examples of feedfoward control will be considered as examples within this project: active control of road noise in vehicles and active simulation of vehicle motion on a durability test rig. Both of these applications are set to become more important with the development of increasingly lightweight and more fuel efficient vehicles. A subsidiary aim of the project is to characterise the types of nonlinearities which are encountered in the two applications and compare the performance of an adaptive linear controller with a controller which could directly compensate for these nonlinearities.
