Summary on Grant Application Form
One of the major challenges facing designers of distributed multimedia applications is how to deal with the wide range of networks and end systems that support such applications. These networks range from those providing high speed and multiservice facilities to lower speed wireless based networks supporting mobility. In this project we propose to look at the feasibility of using the active network approach, where streams carry with them code tailored to adapt the stream to suit different network characteristics thus allowing them to make best use of changing network load and capacity. The proposed system would be implemented over Ipv6 with JAVA support in routes and end-systems.
